공간디자인에서 표현모드의 지표성 - 퍼스 기호학적 관점

초록 (국문)

본 연구는 퍼스 기호학적 관점에 따라 공간디자인의 다양한 표현모드 중 지표기호의 특징을 나타내는 디자인의 양상을 퍼스 기호의 삼원적 관계를 통해 분석하고 그것이 해석자인 사용자와의 기호작용을 통해 어떤 디자인의 의미를 생성하고 어떻게 해석하는 지를 고찰한다. 그리고 그것을 통해 지표기호가 나타내는 공간디자인 문해 방법의 기반을 제시하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 먼저, 퍼스의 지표 기호의 개념과 세미오시스의 삼원적 관계를 파악하였고, 퍼스의 기호분류에 의한 10개 기호 중 이차성이 나타나는 6개 기호를 통해 개별성, 지시성, 실재성, 인접성, 사실성, 하위상징성 등의 지표기호의 특성을 확인하였다. 이를 바탕으로 기호 작용과 삼원적 관계 분석을 통해 나타난 공간디자인에서 표현모드에 나타나는 지표성을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 도상적 개별기호에서는 부수적 경험 제공을 위한 한정적 표현 중심, 레마적 지표 개별기호에서는 단순한 보여주기를 위한 지시의 표현이 적용되었고 발화적 개별기호에서는 독립적 해석을 위해 상징성을 자제한 표현모드가 적용된 것으로 분석하였다. 이차성이 부각되는 다른 기호들 즉 레마적 지표 법칙기호에서는 주목성 유도를 위한 현실적인 표현, 발화적 지표 법칙기호에서는 실재적 관계 재현을 위한 대립적 표현이 적용되었고, 하위지표인 발화적 상징기호에서는 의미전달을 위한 상징성을 강조한 표현모드가 적용된 것으로 분석하였다. 물론 분석 결과가 모든 공간디자인에 기계적으로 적용되는 것은 아니며 본 연구에서는 기호의 재현적 특징들의 연속성에 따라 특징이 좀 더 부각된 표현모드들을 결과로 제시하였다. 제시한 표현모드는 공간에 기호의 능력을 부여하는 문해 체계인 공간디자인이며, 그것을 읽고 이해하는 공간 독해의 작동 원리를 퍼스 기호학 관점으로 제시한 기반연구로서 본 연구의 의의가 있다.

Abstract (English)

The purpose of this study is to examine the modality of design that characterizes indexicality among Spatial Design's various modes of presentation according to Peirce's semiotic viewpoint and how it generates and interprets the meaning of design through the preference of the user, the interpreter—and, through this, to present the basis of literacy for spatial design that represents indexicality. Six of the 10 symbols by the symbol classification of Peirce showed secondary characteristics, including individuality, indication, actuality, locality, reality, and sub-symbolicity. Semiotic process and symbolic triadic analysis of spatial design examples were used to identify the expression modes that characterize each feature. Analysis revealed that in the iconic sinsign, it is the center of limited expression for providing incidental experience, and in the rhematic indexical sinsign, the expression of instructions for simple presentation was applied. And in the dicentic sinsign, it was analyzed that the expression mode that refrained from symbolism for independent interpretation was applied. In other symbols where second category is highlighted, i.e. in the rhematic indexical legisign, it is a realistic expression for attention-inducing and in the dicentic indexical legisign, a confrontational expression was applied for the reenactment of real relationships. In the sub-index, dicentic symbol sign, it was analyzed that the expression mode of the emphasis on symbolicity for semantic transfer was applied. The results of the analysis do not apply mechanically to all spatial designs, but the presentation modes emphasized by the continuity of representational features of symbols were suggested. A suggested presentation mode is a spatial design, a literacy that gives space the potential of symbols. This research has significance as a fundamental investigation that suggests a working principle of interpretation of space that reads and understands space from the perspective of Peirce's semiotics.
